A 6 Step Treatment Protocol for Treating Shame Using Experiential Methods
We hear our clients talk about knowing that a shaming misbelief they hold about themselves is not true in their heads, but still believing it in their hearts. Shame inevitably creates a roadblock to emotional healing and leads to self-defeating behavior cycles. People often go to therapy and address very specific issues of grief, anxiety, depression, etc, and find some relief from the symptoms associated with these issues, but do not address the deeper problem of shaming misbeliefs about who they are. These shaming misbeliefs will often drive them to continue to engage in self-defeating behaviors such as over eating, drinking, smoking, drug use, excessive shopping, gambling, avoiding intimate relationships, isolating, etc. and they do not know how to get out of these behavior patterns.
This protocol is one in which clients can release their shame and have increased resolution from trauma.
